What God Says About You: FREE

     This is my third post in my series: What God Says About You. This series has been about your new identity in Christ after you become a Christian. First I talked about how you were chosen before you were born to be a part of God’s family. Next I talked about how you’ve been made righteous. Now I want to talk about how you are FREE in the Lord.

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2

    In order to understand this verse in its entirety we need to go back. Like way, way back to Adam and Eve. Basically, everything was perfect until Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Then sin came into the world and everything was messed up. Here is where we run into the “law of sin and death”. God’s people, or the Israelites, were living under the old covenant. This covenant said that the Israelites had to offer sacrifices to God in order to make up for their sins. They were in the chains of the devil. The entire world was corrupt and there seemed to be no hope. But then, hundreds of years later, Jesus is born. He died the torturous death of a criminal and was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. He was in the tomb for three days, but then He was raised to life. Before Jesus died, Christians were under the “law of sin and death”. But after Jesus died and rose again, there is now a new covenant. Christians are under the “law of the Spirit who gives life”. They are FREE from the chains of death. Christians are living proof that you can be FREE from the chains of death. Even today you can believe that Christ was raised from the dead.

  “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

     If you have “declared with your mouth”, then fellow Christian, you have been SAVED from the chains of death and you are now in the arms of the Holy Father. You are forgiven and you have been released from the chains of the Devil. You have been reconciled by the One Who Is Love. You are FREE.

Sin

I’ve talked a lot about sin in the past. Sin is one of those unavoidable topics when you’re talking about Christ and the Gospel. Sin was the main reason Jesus came and died on the cross. Because of sin, we were separated from God. But, as I have discussed before, when Jesus rose from the dead, that meant we will rise again in Heaven with Him if we repent and accept Christ as our Savior (1 Corinthians 6:14). But that isn’t the end of the story. That’s why the Holy Spirit led me to write a post about sin.                 Almost everyone knows the story of Adam and Eve.
