Sin

I’ve talked a lot about sin in the past. Sin is one of those unavoidable topics when you’re talking about Christ and the Gospel. Sin was the main reason Jesus came and died on the cross. Because of sin, we were separated from God. But, as I have discussed before, when Jesus rose from the dead, that meant we will rise again in Heaven with Him if we repent and accept Christ as our Savior (1 Corinthians 6:14). But that isn’t the end of the story. That’s why the Holy Spirit led me to write a post about sin.

Almost everyone knows the story of Adam and Eve. If you are unfamiliar, you might want to check back at my “Repent” post, or read Genesis 2-3. That is where sin on earth started. It’s the background info on sin. Before I go any further, I want to make sure everyone knows what sin is. Sin is anything that separates us from God. (The Ten Commandments has a few examples of sin.) Now that everyone is on the same page, I want to show you a few things about sin.

Sin is a CHOICE.

When you sin, you are making a choice. Keep in mind, there are some circumstances where someone doesn’t know the truth. If someone doesn’t know what the truth is, then how are they supposed to make a good choice based on that truth? Daniel 4:5 says:

“…my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge…”
Daniel 4:5

Where can you find knowledge of good and evil? The Bible. There you will find the difference between the truth and the lies of this world. The more you study, the more you will be able to discern what is of Satan and what is of God.

Sin has different MEANINGS.

Have you ever been in a room with two different kinds of people? One who believes it’s a sin to use curse words, while the other kind thinks it’s okay to use them? In today’s world, different people believe different things. That’s just life. But which is really true? Some people say it’s for you to decide. But it’s really not. Once again, there is one reliable source to find all your answers. THE BIBLE.

Sin has PUNISHMENT.

Even though people believe different things, people aren’t the ones who will ultimately judge you for your sins. God is our perfect judge. Proverbs 11:21 says:

“Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.”
Proverbs 11:21

So don’t listen to your feelings. Instead of listening to how YOU FEEL on the matter, look to God’s Word to see how HE FEELS on the matter. Because SIN HAS A PUNISHMENT. And guess who will judge us for our sins: God.

With Sin God Gives GRACE

There is such thing as forgiveness. As I have said before, we are humans. Every single person on the planet has made a mistake.

“…for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…”
Romans 3:23

So it is literally impossible for us mere humans to walk all the way through life without making a mistake. But God has an answer. He gives us something called GRACE. Remember in the beginning how I said that Jesus died on the cross and that we were separated from God? When Jesus died, he gave us GRACE and MERCY. Let’s not get confused with grace and mercy. Mercy is holding back punishment, even though we deserve it. Before Jesus died, there was a giant gap between humans and God. But Jesus healed that gap. Our punishment was eternal death. But God gave us mercy through Jesus. Now let’s look to grace. Grace is forgiving someone even when they don’t deserve it. Even though we like to think of ourselves as high and mighty, innovative and modern, we don’t DESERVE anything! God gives us GRACE because He LOVES us! However, this doesn’t give you a license to break every rule you want to just because you know God will forgive you. Like I said, with sin comes punishment. But God is also a God of grace and mercy.

I hope this encouraged and inspired you as well as many others.

LOVE GRACE
