Undeserving
Amazing
Grace is one of my favorite songs. Not because my name is literally Grace, but
because of the song itself. God’s grace is truly amazing. The reason why God’s
grace is truly amazing is what this post is all about! So get out your hymnal
and find Amazing Grace.
Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
This isn’t the entire song, but
this is the part that I’d really like to focus on. It summarizes the Gospel in
four lines. Trust me, right now I am learning how to summarize and it’s not
that easy. But while the writer did a great job summarizing, this song was
written in 1779. That’s quite a ways back! Because of the time difference the
words might not make sense. But if we look at it closely, this song might start
to reveal to us the Gospel.
The first line simply states how
sweet it is to hear the sound of Amazing Grace. What does grace even mean? Grace
means we get unmerited favor with God even though we don’t deserve it.
Basically, God blesses us even though we don’t deserve it. The other three
lines continue with this theme that we don’t deserve anything, but God has
blessed us and saved us.
I have mentioned the idea that
we as humans don’t deserve anything briefly in my other blogs, but the Holy
Spirit was urging me to devote a blog post to the fact that we are UNDESERVING.
We as humans like to think that on earth we are the most sophisticated species
on the planet. With our amazing scientists, we have created genius inventions
to help us rise to the top of the food chain. We use the resources of the earth
to our advantage. But we’re not all that and a bag of chips. Actually, God
created us, created the earth, gave us free will, gave us the resources, and the
brains. So really, He was behind all this. But here’s something crazy that we
as humans like to avoid. We didn’t deserve anything. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. But
because God is such an awesome God, He loved us so much that he BLESSED us even
when we didn’t, and don’t, deserve anything. And get this, even after we didn’t
deserve a blessing, God sent Jesus to DIE FOR US so that us wretches could live
WITH GOD! And, in the meantime, we get yet another blessing. You receive, when
you accept Christ, THE HOLY SPIRIT that leads you and guides you to live a life
for God. Living a life for God is the LEAST thing we could do after all He’s
done for us.
There’s another thing we can do
for God. We can share the love He has shown us with others. We can give just
how God gave to us. We can bless people when they really need it, even if
they’ve done wrong to us. We do wrong to God every day! But God gave us the
free gift of GRACE.
John 1:16
“Out of his fullness we have received grace in place of grace already given.”
“Out of his fullness we have received grace in place of grace already given.”
This Easter, who can you share GRACE with?
I hope this encouraged and inspired you as
well as many others.
Love,
Grace
