Politics
In all honesty, politics is not my
area of expertise. Although, there are some things that I have noticed. Some
things that politics can do to people. And by pointing out these things, I hope
to warn others, so that they can avoid them.
One thing that politics can do to
people is it can make them anxious and worried. What will happen about this
topic? Who will be the next President? These questions won’t be answered until
the problem is solved or the next election. So why worry about it? There are
things you can do to solve the problem or elect your preferred candidate by
voting. But you shouldn’t be worried. What’s going to happen, is going to
happen. It’s God’s plan, and His plan is above your own. You worrying isn’t
going to make things change. It will only hurt you.
In some cases, people may think
that the person in a political office is causing more damage than he or she is
helping. This is another case where many people can become stressed and
anxious. I heard a pastor say once, “God is not ruled by the Whitehouse. God is
ruled by God!” When I heard that pastor say those words, I knew that they would
stick in my mind like a magnet. These words don’t mean that we shouldn’t
respect the person in office. But it does mean that no matter what happens, God is in control.
Anger. Yep, anger. That is a huge
problem with politics. If something doesn’t go someone’s way, some people have
gotten so angry, they have taken their own lives or the lives of others. Taking
someone’s life because you’re angry is like slapping God in the face. You and every other person on the planet are
His wonderful creation. Don’t believe me? Look at Psalm 139:14:
“I praise you because I am
fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full
well.”
Anger is a real problem. It not
only can cause others to destroy someone’s life, but it can cause people to do
many other wrong things. And anger comes in many forms. Anyone can become angry
over a simple topic. Even toddlers can be angry, not over politics, but over
other, unimportant things. And God knows it. That’s why He wrote 1st
Corinthians 13:5:
“It does not dishonor others, it is
not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs.”
The “it” in this verse is love.
Love is not easily angered. Why can’t we all have love towards one another like
God commands us to? We can’t. That’s exactly why Jesus came to die on the
cross. If everyone was perfect and made no mistakes, there would be no reason
for Jesus to come.
So, what have we learned? Well, one
thing that we learned is that politics are unimportant. The people who get
irate about politics are like that toddler. Groaning about something that is
relatively unimportant. Especially when politics are compared to God’s plan.
What God says goes. Everything else doesn’t matter.
I am not saying that politics
aren’t needed. They truly are a blessing. They are a key part of our government
and how the country is run. What I am saying is that politics don’t need to run you. Getting stressed
about something is a deep hole that many people fall into, and it’s not easy to
get out. So in case I didn’t explain this well enough, here is your warning in
big fat red letters: don’t get sucked up into politics. You can easily get pulled
into being stressed and anxious. Trust in God over everything.
REMEBER: This is easier said than done. If you're having trouble, you can contact me, Grace, and I can pray for you. Or, ask God to help you. He is always there.
Thank you for reading and I hope this encouraged you as well as many
others.
