Be You
Be you. This is one of the most popular
sayings in our world today. It’s literally everywhere. Our billboards, signs,
television. But what does it really mean?
Many times when something is said
over and over again by many people, it starts to loose it’s meaning. It becomes
something that is just said, but doesn’t have the same impact as it did when it
began. “Be you.” is one of those sayings. In this post I would like to dive a
little deeper into what it truly means to be you.
My first thought as to its meaning
is to encourage those who thought they had to change to be accepted. They
thought they needed to change things such as hairstyle, clothing, etc.
Basically, they had to change their OUTWARD APPEARANCE to fit in. Someone
apparently saw someone else in this state, had compassion for them, and told
them to be themselves. Since then, it has been said so many times that people
has taken it out of context.
BE YOU. Even when this is used in
the right context it is still incorrect. At first glance, “Be you” doesn’t seem
all that bad. It is only encouraging people not to change themselves for anyone
else. But here’s why it’s wrong:
Our world today is based off
feelings. What we do every day depends on our feelings. If we are feeling sad,
the day becomes sad. If we are feeling happy, the day becomes happy. Our day is
dictated by our feelings. Be you is also based off your feelings. Who do YOU
FEEL YOU are? Should be the real question. This is wrong because we are
completely focused on ourselves and how WE FEEL. If we really want to TRULY BE
OURSELVES, we must turn to God. After all, isn’t he the one that knows every
hair on your head and CREATED YOU? Wouldn’t it make sense to go to the person
who knows more about you than you do if you had questions about yourself?
So instead of focusing on how YOU
FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF, focus on what GOD THINKS ABOUT YOU! God is your mirror!
Ask Him to show you more and more about yourself each day.
I
hope this encouraged and inspired you as well as many others!
LOVE
GRACE
