Planting Seeds

Today, I am bringing a message to you that was brought to me a few years back. It was a sermon that I heard at my church and took notes on. Unfortunately, I don’t know who presented the sermon, but I used the points from my notebook and added parts of my own to create a revised version. I hope you enjoy!
During our week, we come in contact with several people. Think about how many opportunities that gives us to share the love of God with others! As followers of the Almighty God we have been called to share the Gospel with as many people as possible. Mark 16:15 says, “…’Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” God has provided so many opportunities to share, but it’s up to us to make the bold choice of sharing our faith with others.
There are two reasons why people are deterred from sharing the Gospel. They are unsure where to start and they don’t know what specifically to share. In five short points I will explain how to plant the seeds of the Gospel.
1. Foreknown
When you’re explaining salvation with someone, begin with the fact that they were foreknown. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…” God isn’t bound by time. He knew every hair that would be on your head before the creation of the world.
2. Predestined
This follows along with the first point. God not only set you apart, but He also had a plan for you. Romans 8:29 says, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” God planned for you to take on the image of Jesus.
3. Called
When you’re sharing the Gospel, remember that you are only planting seeds. After you have planted the seed, others may water it, but it’s up to God to grow it. Salvation is a relationship between the person and God. It is ultimately up to God to call the person to Him.
4. Choice
This brings us to our next point. After the person accepts that they were foreknown, predestined, and called, it is up to them to take the leap of faith and make a choice to accept Christ. We can plant the seed and God can grow it, but God wants the relationship to be a choice, not something that was forced or manipulated. Explain that if they chose salvation, they need to pray and tell the Lord about their decision to accept His free gift.
5. Glorify
Last, explain that after they’re saved, their Spirit becomes blameless. Through their walk with Christ, God will constantly prune them to be more like Him. This goes back to point two. They will ultimately take on the image of Jesus and glorify God.

Please remember that some people aren’t completely open to Christianity and might not accept salvation at first. But remember, you are only planting seeds. God will take care of the growing.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”       Romans 6:23

I hope this encouraged and inspired you as well as many others.
