Jesus Paid It All

 Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

                 In 1865, those words were written by Elvina M. Hall. Little did she know that those words would continue to ring in churches all over America over one hundred and fifty years later. The words are very simple. But they tell the story of the man who came as the ultimate sacrifice.

The Bible tells us in Genesis chapters 2 and 3 that God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. All things lived in perfect harmony with one another. But one day, a serpent tempted Eve to eat from the tree that had been forbidden by God. Eve yielded to the temptation and ate the fruit. She gave some to her husband, Adam, and he ate as well. After they ate, the Bible tells us that “the eyes of both of them were opened” (Genesis 3:7). They saw their sin and they hid, but God came looking for them.

Once Eve had eaten the fruit, sin entered the Earth. Earth was no longer a paradise, and the people were no longer white as snow. But God offered hope through a promise. He promised to send a Savior to right their sin (Genesis 3:15).

For centuries, people lived under the curse of sin. The people waited and waited for the promised Savior. Sin was running rapid and it seemed like God had forgotten His promise, but then, a baby was born in a stable, and he was named Jesus. He lived His life as a perfect man and never fell to Satan’s temptation. He was beaten, tortured, rejected. He paid it all. And He did it all for us.

Sometimes we miss the point that Jesus was dying, not just for the sins committed in the past, but for all the sins that would be committed. We make sinful decisions daily. That sin is the crimson stain that Elvina wrote about. It’s humbling when you truly realize that because of the sins you committed today and because of your crimson stain, an innocent man hung on a cross to redeem you. That’s how much He loves you. He would give everything, not just earthly possessions, but His very life, just so you would have a choice to become white as snow.

But even after all that, there are some who still reject Jesus. They claim that he was just a prophet, or that his resurrection was impossible and unreal. Even still, God comes after us, just like in the garden. In our wrongs and in our sin, God calls out to us. It says in Revelation 3:20:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

He knocks on our hearts asking to come in, but it is up to us to open the door. Will you accept Him today? If you are ready to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, pray this prayer below, or use your own prayer.

Lord, thank you for your goodness. Thank you that you paid it all, even your life, for me. Your word says that if I confess with my mouth, then I will be saved. I admit that I have sinned and that I am not white as snow. I accept your invitation to live in my heart. I thank you that you have come to live inside me and that you will lead me and guide me to walk in your truth.

Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, CONGRATULATIONS! Your Spirit is now white as snow. You have reserved your place in Heaven.

I hope this encouraged and inspired you as well as many others.

Love Grace
