Nature and Worship
(This post is based off of one of my older Grace Inspirations letters. These letters were sent to my neighbors. They were the beginning of Grace Inspirations blog.)
Nature may seem completely separate from worship. Before I
tell you how they go hand in hand, let's look at worship.
Worship may seem like a very religious thing to do. You go to church, and worship God through
singing songs. Actually, many people, who aren’t necessarily “Christians” do it
everyday. But you are capable of worshiping other things, not just God. And,
worship can take many forms.
What other
things am I capable of worshiping?
When I ask this question, you probably think you know where I’m
going with this. You can worship other gods like Thor, but you need to only
worship God. But actually, you are capable of worshiping just about anything,
not just God and Thor. Yes, worshiping other gods is something you can worship,
and it is true that you need to stay on track. But, really anything you put too
much worth into, becomes your focus. But how am I worshiping it? Well, when you
put ALL your time and ALL your effort into it, it can become your worship.
What other
ways can I worship?
You don’t always have to be singing in order to worship.
Praying is a great way to praise God. You can thank Him for all your blessings
in prayer. You can also glorify God
through your actions.
Here is where nature comes in. Everything God made was made for one purpose. To worship Him. After
Jesus came, humans were given a second purpose. To share the Good News, or
Gospel, of Christ with others. Anyway, if everything was created to worship
God, everything includes nature. How
in the world does nature worship God? A better word for how nature worships God
would be reflect. Through nature, we can see God. How? Think about the oceans
and their vastness. God created those oceans by speaking. It’s like you telling
Alexa to create the entire universe. Just looking at the oceans can show us
that God is large and powerful. Now let’s look at the human body. Just a tiny cell,
that is unable to be seen with a naked eye, is incredibly complex. What that
shows me about God is that He is creative and complex. If you just learn about
nature, you are only scratching the surface. If you dig a little deeper, and
look a little closer, you may find something more. You may find yourself looking
right at God.
