Who Is Jesus?

In this blog, the names Jesus, Messiah, Savior, and Christ will be mentioned often.  Today, I will be writing about who Jesus is. For some people this may seem like a ridiculous question. But after reading this, the name Jesus may seem a little more complex than you thought.

Jesus was a man who lived on earth a couple thousand years ago. His mother was Mary and his father was Joseph. Yep. It’s the old Christmas story. Even though Joseph is called his father, he really wasn’t. You see, God worked a miracle through Mary. She was a virgin.

Part 2 of Jesus’s life is when he is an adult. He preached everywhere he went and performed miracles that healed the sick. This sounds great to us, but there were people called Pharisees that were sort of like priests. They literally hated Jesus and everything he did. Why? When people started believing in Jesus, they turned away from the Pharisees. This made the Pharisees very JEALOUS. This is the reason they ended up nailing him to the cross. Before we go any further, I want to put in one fact about Jesus that might help you understand. Jesus was the Messiah. The one that God sent from Heaven to earth to become our Savior. Basically, Jesus was God. Does God make mistakes? No. Exactly. So Jesus made no mistakes. The Pharisees, as well as every other human on the planet, do make mistakes. Everything Jesus did, the Pharisees tried to look for mistakes. If they found a mistake, they could arrest him. When they thought they had found a mistake, they nailed him to a cross. This was in every sense of the word, torture. They whipped him and put nails through his wrists and ankles. He hung almost dead from the wooden cross. In order to breath, he had to pull himself upwards. From this, he suffocated, and died. Well, there goes our so called “Savior”. The world is just going to have to live in misery, shame, and sadness. But this doesn’t make sense. God sent Jesus. And God doesn’t make mistakes. So, why was Jesus a mistake? He wasn’t! 3 Days later, he rose from the dead or, in other words, came alive once again!

So how is Jesus the Savior, Messiah and Christ? Yeah, he died and came alive again, but how did he save the world? Before I answer this, let’s go back to the beginning. Adam and Eve were the first people. And no, they didn’t evolve from apes. They literally walked with God. Everything was perfect. There was no bad. Until, Eve sinned (made a mistake). Then sin (bad stuff) came into the world. People and God were very far apart. Today, if we ask Jesus to come live in our hearts, we will go to Heaven when we die.  But before Jesus died, people had to abide by the law and give animal sacrifices for their sins. But when Jesus rose from the dead, he was the ultimate sacrifice. In this way, he defeated death. Man no longer had to give animal sacrifices. And, man could spend the rest of eternity with God, as well as have a personal relationship with God on earth. This doesn’t mean that people won’t die. It means that if you ask Jesus into your heart, you get a first class ticket to Heaven.

Romans 10:9 says:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Isn’t that a wonderful promise that we can put our faith in Christ Jesus and spend the rest of eternity with God?
