Philippians

As most of you know, I am a homeschool student. For those of you who are unfamiliar with homeschooling, I do all of my school at home and my parents are my teachers. Some homeschoolers do all their work online, but I can do most things without a computer. In my studies, I have been learning about the book of Philippians. One verse really stood out to me, and I wanted to share it with you. It is Philippians 1:12-14.

“Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.”
-Philippians 1:12-14

It’s a really long verse, I know. And not to mention confusing. So let’s start at the very beginning. What is the book of Philippians about? Who wrote it? What is the setting? First of all, the book of Philippians was written by Paul, who was writing to the people in Philippi, called the Philippians. While he is writing, he is in prison. Knowing that he is in prison, makes things a little less confusing. So when he says, “…that what has happened to me…” he is talking about the fact that he is in prison. But how could being in prison “…advance the gospel…”? That is what he explains in the rest of the verse. The fact that he is in prison has a purpose, which is that others are realizing he is a true follower of Christ, and that because of his struggles, other followers are becoming more courageous when sharing the Gospel.

So now that the verse makes a little more sense, what does that have to do with me and my life? Well let’s take a look at Fallon Taylor. If you follow my Instagram page (@grace_inspirations_) you know that I mention her quite a bit. She is a famous barrel racer, who is someone who rides on a horse really, really fast around a bunch of barrels. A few years ago, she had a terrible accident that paralyzed her. They told her she would never ride again. But she recovered, and since then has won many competitions. She has been an inspiration to many people. The reason I’m telling you this is because this is a great example of how God has used not so great circumstances to inspire others! So if you’re going through a hard time in your life, remember that God is using this for a greater purpose that we may not even know about!

I hope this encouraged and inspired you as well as many others!

LOVE GRACE
